Hostel California
A song written by Robert G. Forsythe, Jr.
for his brother Ryan's wedding
Sung to the tune of Hotel California

On a dark coastal highway
Sea breeze in my hair
One smell of the cous cous
Rising up thru the air
Up ahead in the distance
I saw a 5 minute light
By the time that thing had changed to green
I had to stop for the night
So I drove to the doorway
I heard their dinner bell
And I was thinking to myself
This could be heaven or this could be hell
So I opened the car door
And began on my way
There were raccoons in the parking lot
Thought I heard them say

Welcome to the hostel California
Where the staff is nice (where the staff is nice)
and it's a reasonable price
Plenty of room at the hostel California
Any time of year (any time of year)
'less a wedding's going on here

the driveway's definitely twisted
not made for Mercedes-Benz
they said "you'll share a room with other boys
maybe make friends
then come down in the morning
we'll all have a chore
some stay 'cause it's fun here
some stay 'cause they're poor"
so I walked up to the front desk
which room will be mine?
He said
As soon as you pay for it you can go down to room number 9
And still those raccoons are calling from far away
Wake you up in the middle of the night
Just to hear them say

Welcome to the hostel California
Where the staff is nice (where the staff is nice)
it's a reasonable price
they're living it up at the hostel California
lots of nature here (lots of nature here)
bring your hiking gear

Mirrors in the bathrooms
And pink lemonade on ice
And she said
You won't need a t.v. here
So don't bring that device
And in the staff's chambers
They gather for the feast
Some of them are vegetarians
So there might not be any beast

Last thing I remember
I was headed for the door
Had to find the pathway back
To the place I parked before
Goodbye said the desk man
We hope you come back here again
You can check out any time you like
'long as you leave by 10
